Installation

Three steps to your first scene

  1. Run the installer. Launch VisualJava-Setup.exe and follow the wizard — no separate JDK install is required.
  2. Open Visual Java. On first launch, choose New Project, pick 2D or 3D, and give it a name.
  3. Press Run. The default template opens with a player and a moving enemy already wired up — edit Main.jvl and run again to see changes.

Good to know

Before you install

Not open source

Visual Java's source is hosted on GitHub for distribution and issue tracking, but the project is closed-source software developed by jter.

Windows only, for now

1.7 ships a Windows installer. macOS and Linux support is on the roadmap but not available yet — follow Discord for updates.

Antivirus warnings

Because the installer isn't code-signed by a major CA yet, some antivirus tools may flag it on first run. It only downloads from the official GitHub release above.
